Q: Why won't recurring events delete from my iMac's iCal? iPhone, iPad

My title pretty much says it all! All's well with iCal across devices, except that I cannot delete a recurring event on my iMac, I can delete the instances one day at a time but not a whole event. If I make a change to a recurring event, it duplicates it. OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. It has been this way since purchase 2014.

Thanks

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)

When you delete a recurring event, you should be prompted to choose between deleting all instances or just one. Does that happen? If not, please create a test event with one recurrence, then delete it. What happens now?

Yes I am prompted, if I choose one event it will delete but if I choose all future events nothing will happen.

If I make a change to a recurring event it will duplicate (still keeping the original).

    but,

I have just discovered something interesting when doing a test as you advise...if I delete the very first day of the event, it deletes all successfully, choosing anything repeated after the first day of the event, it will not.

    Thanks

It's normal that you can only delete future instances of a recurring event. Past instances would have to be deleted one-by-one, if you really think it's necessary.

I don't think I've explained myself well... On all my other devices I can select a recurring event and delete it. All future events are then deleted (not past ones).

On my iMac, I cannot delete recurring events without doing them individually day by day.

I have just discovered that I can delete the recurring event on the iMac only if I find the very first instance of the said event. This isn't practical to search backwards to find the day that I created that repeat in order to delete it or change it.

I do not have any issues with Mac Book Air's iCal, iPad, phone etc... I can select any recurring event, edit it or delete it from any point and forward.

    Does that explain thinks better?

Basically, if an events recurring I can't delete it on my iMac (it's removed for about a second before being reinstated), non of my calendars are read-only.

    Thanks

Do you synchronize your calendars with a network service such as iCloud or Google?

Yes, I use iCloud. Everything has always been fine on all other devices, just the iMac's iCal that's not happy.

You may be triggering a bug in Yosemite. If so, the solution would be to upgrade to El Capitan in the App Store. See the discussion linked below.

I've upgraded to El Capitan, all is now working brilliantly. I didn't realise this would sort it. Thanks v.much for your time & help.
