My finder is freezing in list view. I can return to icon view with no problem but list view doesn't work in any folder. I think it may be related to google drive. I made a change in google drive earlier and that seems to be when the problem started. I changed the google drive setting back, but the finder problem is still happening. I'm runing OS X mavericks 10.9.5. 27" 3.2 ghz Intel iMac (2013).
Try quitting Google Drive as a test.
Might be a corrupt .plist.
Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Re-launch Finder by restarting the computer and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Just forcing the .plist to rebuild worked only temporarily. As soon as I launch the google drive app again, the problem starts again. This worked fine for over a year, till 2 weeks ago.
Any clue about what I could do from the google drive app side?

The fixes here help me to solve the problem after stopping to use the google drive app.
Let's hope google fixes it at their end.

i experienced the same problem and found a 2013 post (cnet: 'Google Drive crashing Finder in OS X Mavericks') suggesting to uncheck 'Show file sync status icons and right click menu' in the preferences window.
did the job for me (mac os 10.9.5, google drive 1.31). hope it will work for you, too.
