You might be switching between Apple ID's on each device or using Family Sharing, but since his email address is already associated with his own Apple ID, you can not associate it with iMessages on your devices. You could sign out of iMessages on your device and then sign into his iMessage account, but you can't add his email address to your Apple ID for the purpose of using iMessage.
