May 12, 2016 8:18 AM in response to sorabhmby boilerfan97,Hi All -
So an update on my situation from previous posts...
I went to the Apple Store and they did a diagnostic. The Touch ID was not showing as connected. They had to do a full screen replacement because the home button/touch/screen are all one assembly.
They thought it was coincidence that TouchID stopped working when I updated to 9.3.
I'm not completely convinced it was a coincidence. The software may have made that issue either more noticeable or caused the home button issue.
Everything was fine after the screen was replaced.

May 15, 2016 6:05 AM in response to boilerfan97by Peter Almere,Same issue here. I have a brand new iPhone 6s that worked for a couple of days. I had it updated with 9.3.1 and the phone crashed randomly giving me a black screen. This happened AFTER touch-id did not work. When I did a forced-restart it worked again for a couple of days. But then got the same problem again.
Apple help says it is probably a hardware issue and I should bring in the phone for repair. But it makes me real angry! I did several things, reset, restore and DFU reset. Nothing worked. The only thing that I now want to try is to delete my version of 9.3.1 on the computer so iTunes has to download it again and then set the phone up as new. But I am afraid it doesn't help.....

May 16, 2016 12:19 AM in response to woodstok1979by bosh89,I have an iPhone 6 - updated to 9.3.1 and the phone crashed randomly a couple of times giving me a black screen. I then had to hard reset to get the phone to start as it became unresponsive. After this touch-id did not work - however reachability (e.g. double 'tap' on the home button) still worked for a short period, but soon this stopped too after another freeze/crash .
I have done a factory reset, reinstall from back up, multiple hard resets and setting resets but nothing..... APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS ISSUE AS I DON'T BELIEVE IT IS HARDWARE RELATED!

May 17, 2016 7:08 PM in response to sam.etby BBoiss,Did any of you have your screens of your iPhones replaced prior to this update? Or possibly, did you buy your phones second hand? It will be expected for your Touch ID to be disabled after any update or restore if the screen cannot be authenticated as genuine. To be more specific, the Touch ID is what is verified because it is responsible for the security of so much now. Your access to Apple Pay, authenticating app passwords, lock screen, etc. So by design, if the systems check discovers the part is not genuine during its restore or update, it is disabled.

May 17, 2016 7:26 PM in response to BBoissby bosh89,Mine is a genuine iPhone 6 (purchased via apple) and the screen has never been replaced. Similarly, no damage has ever occurred to the screen or home button.

Thanks a lot for the log.
There are no plans to address this as a bug.
Unfortunately, this is a HW issue - either the Home button or the TouchID sensor or the connecting flex is broken.
Please visit an Apple store or authorized service center for repairs.
We are now closing this report.
If you have questions about the resolution, or if this is still a critical issue for you, then please update your bug report with that information.
Please be sure to regularly check new Apple releases for any updates that might affect this issue.
a-ha, hardware issue suddenly appeared together with dozens of other similar reports and right after iOS update...
low, Apple...really low...
one step closer to returning to Android...
You do realize that existing hardware issues tend to be tripped by things like updates and restores. This has always been the case for as long as I have owned a computer. During this process, the underlying software does a quick checklist of all of the hardware it depends on, and if it deems anything faulty it disables it. You will still have use of everything else about your phone.
What was most common when doing a fresh install of Windows was that the hard drive would come back as in need of replacement. A couple hundred dollars later, I was back up and running. To replace your screen and its Touch ID, it's $129. That isn't a lot, and anyone making the argument of "well I can't trust that I won't be in this same boat again in a few months" I have to argue back that it is as likely as being struck by lightning twice. Yes, you can argue that a few dozen people on forums you have read are all talking about this too, but how many of those are the same people restating the same thing and how many of those are people not having the issue and just trying to assist with suggestions? Now how many are left? So is this really such a major issue? I think not. These phones were not made by whatever God you may pray to, and even his creations have their imperfections, so really what do you expect? Things will happen. Today, they happened to you. I'm sorry, but you will get no empathy from me here.

May 18, 2016 3:42 AM in response to woodstok1979by phich,I have the same issue with my new iphone 6. Has anyone try to update to ios 9.3.2? Will the issue resolved?
-
May 18, 2016 3:58 AM in response to phichby Peter Almere,Yes of course I updated. It's the first thing you should do! Try and see what happens......
In my case it did not resolve anything. But you should stil see for yourself. There are also security issues that are reason to update.

May 18, 2016 9:09 PM in response to woodstok1979by coordinatezero,I recently got an iPhone 6S+ with an Otter case. For what it's worth, my fingerprint stopped working before 9.3.1 (in fact I hoped the update might fix it) and only seemed to allow a fingerprint reset if I took it out of the case (otherwise the same few red fingerprint lines would show up and it wouldn't learn my print). After that it seemed fine. But then it almost seemed to stop working at times --- until I realized that if I had it charging, it wouldn't work, but once I pulled the charger out, it would immediately start working again. I don't know how that might help, but there's my story and I can probably use my iPad to quickly film the phenomenon in action. Just tested it again, and still consistently does it. Weird.

May 18, 2016 9:21 PM in response to woodstok1979by brettfromliberty,Same issue after updating to 9.3.2 (iPhone 5S). Immediately after update, Siri was being activated without being commanded during other activity. It could not be deactivated except for restarting the phone. This occurred several times. Then the screen went black and required restart. This occurred several times. When this issue cleared then Touch ID would only respond after several tries. Attempting to use Touch ID in an app resulted in Touch ID being deactivated and all fingerprints lost. Attempting to turn Touch ID back on results in the "Failed Unable to complete Touch ID setup. Please go back and try again." message. The other issues cleared, but the Touch ID issue continues.
