Q: My ipod nano 7th gen won't connect to my itunes.

My ipod nano 7th Gen won't connect to my itunes through my mac. My itunes is the latest version and I have tried all usb ports on my mac. A message saying;

'The iPod “iPod” cannot be used because it requires a newer version of iTunes. Go to www.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes.' comes up every time it is connected via usb.

If your 7th gen iPod nano is the 2015 version, it requires a version of iTunes that runs under OS X 10.7.5 or later.  The tech specs page for it

    https://www.apple.com/ipod-nano/specs/

says for Mac System Requirements, "USB 2 or 3 port, OS X v10.7.5 or later, and iTunes 12.2 or later."  If your Mac runs an older version of OS X (before 10.7.5), the latest version of iTunes available to you is not new enough for your iPod nano.

If this is the case, depending on your specific Mac model, you may be able to run a later version of OS X, which may allow you to run iTunes 12.2 or later.  What is your Mac model?  Do a Get Info from the Apple menu, to get that info.

Yeah the iPod nano is the 2015 version, and my Mac model is 10.6.8.

Is it possible to run a later version of OS X?

    Thanks for your reply.

    From previous reply...

10.6.8 is your current version of the OS.  The Mac model determines what version of OS X it can run.  The latest version of OS X, El Capitan (currently 10.11.4), is supported by the Mac models listed here

    https://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/#hardware-requirements

But even if your Mac is not supported for El Capitan, it may be able to run 10.7.5 or later, which is required for your iPod.

    Ha Thanks,

I'm a bit Mac illiterate. Thanks for your help. It's much appreciated.

When you select About This Mac from the Apple menu, what does it say about your Mac model?  For example, mine says Mac mini (Mid 2011).

Kenichi. I read your response on my email.  thank you for responding. When i connect ipod the main screen comes on but the message on itunes says it does not recognize the ipod. I've searched the web for help and even tried the solutions offered on apple help. these say there may be a problem with the newest version of itunes. thank you for responding.

Why are you replying here, instead of the one you created?

itunes does not recognize my ipod nano

I'll reply there, to avoid confusion to the original poster here...
