how to connect lightning to ethernet

I thought I saw a reference to a lightning to ethernet adapter for iOS devices in a blog regarding the announcements of March 21.

I have not been able to confirm it anywhere else.

If it is not in the pipeline what is the best way to hardwire an ipad to ethernet?

thanks

Not sure where you got with this but I was just researching a bit based on a WiFi-Texas.com product I received while trying to wall mount my iPad inside of a Windfall brand wall mount. SKU-T255 with Heckler Design is a product to adapt from a POE switch to a converter which then to get both the power and wired Ethernet features requires both the USB camera adapter, Lightning to USB Camera Adapter - Apple and Apple USB Ethernet Adapter - Apple. Im not sure why we cant just use a lightning to RJ45 adapter but my guess is that they haven't got the technology far enough to have it all in one adapter. They do have other adapters as well.

I just received the new USB 3 Camera Connection Kit (works with USB 2 as well). I just tested it on an iPad Air 2 with an Apple USB ethernet adapter and it works. There are several caveats though:

  • It requires power. I don't know if the older connection kit had a lightning connector but the new USB 3 version does and it has to be plugged in.
  • There is no setup. You must be using DHCP and it must automatically retrieve DNS information. For most people this will be normal but if anything doesn't work, there is no UI to change any setting.
  • I only tested with Apple's early generation USB 2 ethernet adapter.
  • I tested on an iPad Air 2 but since they both run the same version of iOS and have a lightning connector, it should work the same on an original iPad Air.

Hope this helps.
