Note: The latest version of OS X that is compatible with AOL Desktop for Mac is OS X 10.9 (Mavericks). AOL Desktop is not compatible with OS X 10.10 and above.
You'll have to uninstall it, it's not compatible with El Capitan. This is why it's important to check these things before you install anything.

Jul 20, 2016 10:19 AM in response to ggalyoby Rolf Rykken,aol desktop for mac crashes in firefox browser, which was recommended to use for AOL Desktop because Apple refuses to work things out with AOL in El Capitain and Safari. Repeated attempts using Firefox and it still crashes.
