Compressor 4.2 is making files 4x as large as Compressor 3

Hey All,

I'm outputting a simple talking head clip that's 2 minutes long, and I am completely at a loss as to why the difference.

Original file is H264, cut in FCPX.

I've tried outputting both a Master File, and the Send to Compressor option, and both give me a 74MB file. Using a Master File in Compressor 3 gives me a 17MB file.

Any help would be appreciated.

Compressor 3 Settings

960x540

H264

Quality: halfway between Med. and High

Optimized for Streaming

Key, Frame, and Data: Automatic

Encoding: Best

Audio: AAC, Mono, 44.1, Normal, 96Kbps

Compressor 4.2 Settings

960x540

QT Movie

H264

Pixel, Frame, Date Rate: Automatic

H.264 Profile: Main

Entropy Mode: CABAC (same file size when using CAVLC)

Resize Filter: Better (same file size when using fast)

Retiming Quality: Fast

Audio: AAC, Mono, 44.1, Normal, 96Kbps

NOTES

1) I can't find an option for Optimize for Streaming

2) I tried Web Publishing for Data Rate, but file size was even larger

Thanks in advance.

Duplicate the 540 Video Sharing preset. In the Inspector, Video, choose Custom for bit rate. Inter the rate you want. Click on QuickTime Settings Change button. In the drop down under Restrict to, choose Streaming.

Good luck.

Hi Russ,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Dropping the data rate down to 1Kbps in Comp 4.2 got me a 19MB file, and the same setting got me a 19MB file in Comp 3.

So, on the one hand, I guess the problem is solved--Thank you--but that begs the question: why does Comp 3 give a 17MB when Data Rate is set to Automatic, but Comp 4.2 outputs a 74MB file?

Also, I mis-typed a request: I can't find a comparable setting for Streaming: Fast Start in Comp 4. Any help there?

Thanks again.
