My iMac will not list my Nikon D100 device.

My iMac will not list my Nikon D100 device, however, Photos recognizes the D100 and loads its pictures. This is a recent development as I have never had this issue in the past. I need to see the D100 as a device in order to copy pictures to my external drive. I do not use Photos for most of my work. I upgraded OS X to Version 10.11.4, but this did not resolve the issue.

I've connected several Nikon digicams to several Macs and their cards never show up on the Desktop. That started with our first Nikon about 2009 and has persisted from OS 10.4 through 10.11. It's the way Nikon formats camera cards.

Either use the Nikon capture software to export the images to your external drive, or use Apple's Image Capture (in your Applications folder) to read the cards and move files.
