MacBook pro stuck on restart after upgrade

Trying to install the 10.11.4 latest update on 2015 MacBook pro. All went well until the restart. Status is stuck a little over halfway, I am afraid to interrupt -- but it's been in same place for over an hour (white bar right above "n" in "restarting")
