Did you have the trial version installed previously?
It could be a problem with the application or something in your system. You could try a few simple things:
- start your mac in Safe Mode and then restart normally
- delete FCP X preferences by holding down command and option while starting the application
- completely remove FCP X by using the FCS Remover application, and then download a fresh copy from the Purchases section of the App Store.
