Q: Digital copy physical book

HI all,

i am wondering if there is anyway to get an iBooks version of physical books I own. Much prefer to read on my iPad now and, as weird as it may sound to some, I find books cumbersome to read. Particularly when reading in bed.

I liken this to how I used to rip my music collection to iTunes when I got my first iPod.

thanks

Music is easier as it was already in a digital format (on a CD) when you moved it (ripped it) to the computer and synced it wherever you wanted it to be.  As far as book, they aren;t digital, so your only plausible options is to see if the book you want is available on the iBook Store, then purchase it.  iBooks will also take PDF files which you can save directly from Safari or Email on your iPad or use iTunes to sync them from your computer to iBooks.

    Thanks. Makes sense of course.

I think what I was looking for was some way to scan the ISBN or similar and have that trigger a download of the book's digital equivalent from the iBooks store.

Clearly there are some copyright, ownership, etc... concerns. But can't see how these are terribly different from those of the music from CDs. Who didn't borrow a CD or two from friends to add to their iTunes library?

The setup for ebooks may evolve in that direction someday, but it is totally different now.  You have to buy the digital version separately, and if from the iBookstore, it can only be read on an Apple device, with sharing limited to family.
