I understand that you are needing to reinstall Garageband for you MacBook Pro. Let's see if we can get that taken care of.
For your model of MacBook Pro, a mid 2009, you should have had a second disk that has the iLife Suite on it. All you would need to do is insert that disk and install it. It would have said Applications. Take a look at the article below for more details.

Now you should have updated the apps over time and that might have associated them with your Apple ID. You can check for a previous purchase download in the Mac App Store. All you need to do is sign in and navigate to the Purchased tab. More details on how to do this are outlined below.
