AT&T transferring phone: account type not supported

My "AT&T account type is not supported," says the Apple site. And so I can't purchase the new phone this morning. The full message is:

"Account type not supported. We're sorry. Your existing rate plan is not an eligible AT&T iPhone plan. You can proceed by activating a new account now or visit an AT&T store to keep your current phone number."

As I write it is 3:30 a.m. so no CHAT is available or even phone support (Eastern Standard Time / Florida).

I have a very good-priced GoPhone account. Is there any shared suggestion along these lines: if I change to a different (read: more expensive) AT&T account through the Apple portal (which appears to be avail. but I haven't done this yet) are all GoPhones not supported, or just my good-priced one.

I wouldn't be up this early in the morning if it weren't for the new 4se coming out.

Thanks. Suggestions are heartily welcome!

AT&T does not support / permit the use of iPhones on their Go Phone service. You will have to switch to a post-paid plan if you want to use an iPhone on AT&T.

Yes, people have been able to get it to work (you would have to purchase an unlocked phone with no reference to AT&T), but when they find out you're using an iPhone on Go Phone (and they will find out) they will terminate the service.
