Q: iOS wont update due as phone still being restored from iCloud after 7 days. Not able to cancel iCloud back up either

Upgrade phone from iPhone 5 to 5S and restored phone from iCloud. 5 days later iPhone says it is still restoring and will not let me update software. Tried cancelling back up to iCloud but it is currently off and won't let me switch it on and off again as it is grayed out.

iPhone 5, iOS 9.2.1

    Hello Sid_wise,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that your iPhone is taking a while to restore from your iCloud backup.  Restoring from your backup can take a while, depending on the size of the backup, and the Wi-Fi network you're connected to.  For more information please see below:

Restoring my device from an iCloud backup is taking a long time

Restoring from a backup might take a while because of the size of the backup or the speed of the Wi-Fi network. For example, iCloud can take approximately 1 to 4 hours per gigabyte during a restore process.

There are several steps you can take:

    • In iOS 8 or later, check the progress of the transfer on your device under Settings > iCloud > Backup. If the restore process is underway, the iCloud Backup setting is dimmed.
    • Make sure that your device is connected to the Internet with reliable Wi-Fi.
    • Make sure that your device is plugged in to a power outlet.
    • Check the Apple progress bar that appears while transferring a backup.
