Incorrect Apple ID after Software Update to iOS9.3

Hello Community,

I updated my iPhone 5S this morning (since I was curious about the new version iOS9.3) and wanted to activate my phone after that, however, I always receive the message 'Incorrect Apple ID - ..... cannot be used to unlock this iPhone.'. I'm really sure that my Apple ID and my password are correct, I actually changed my password to rule out this option, so has anybody an idea of what could have gone wrong and what I can do about that? Thanks!

Best, Thomas

i spend over a hour between online support and on my regular home phone, the tech on the phone is telling me i have some other apple ID , I've never had this problem till last night, can't activate using that ID,so I'm locked out, she sent a reset request that takes 24 hours, seems to a problem on their end, but she acknowledged their is a issue, very vague at best

won't know till tomorrow, - this "mystery" apple ID that she couldn't tell me, - seems like they can't tell you that they caused this to happen, but I've bought the phone new 3 years ago and never had any issue with my apple ID, and never changed it, I'll know more tomorrow, seems to be related to the "find my iphone App' - she wasn't telling me much

Did you buy the phone from apple or did you buy from a third party? If it was the third party then you may have hit activation lock. It may be locked to someone else's ID. You would need to contact the seller that you bought it from to get them to turn it off. If not then there is nothing apple can do.

If you bought it from apple then you should be able to reset your phone. You will have to use the apple ID that you used to activate it the first time. If you changed your apple ID then you still need to use the original one to activate it.

Greetings iPhone5SThomas,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

I understand that after updating your iPhone to iOS 9.3, your current Apple ID and password are not working to activate your device. In some cases, the hint that you see on the Activate iPhone screen may not match your current Apple ID.

We know that this situation can be frustrating, but we’re here to help. To troubleshoot this situation and work towards resolving it, please read over and follow the steps from the following article.
