Text edit excludes some of the past files in the history

When I right click on "text edit," which is in the doc, part of what it displays seems to be recent text edit files that I opened. But, it doesn't seem to be including some of my text edit files in that list. For example, it's not showing the last text edit file that I was working with. This document happens to be in the "documents" folder. Why do some documents not show in this history?
