The cursor on my mouse is sometimes a plus sign, not an arrow

Is anyone having a problem with their cursor on the computer screen showing up as a plus sign when using the mouse? In a text document, it is the traditional vertical bar. When I move the cursor around the computer it may be an arrow, but then will turn into a plus (target?) symbol. I can't figure out what's causing it. I have rebooted a couple of times. I'm using 10.11.3, but it only recently started.

I have been using Word, if that tells you something and I should be doing or trying other things, let me know.

As for the suggestion of Cmd-Alt-+, I tried it with no positive results except I did notice that while holding just Cmd-Alt down, the arrow showed up regardless of where I moved the mouse around, but when I let go it just reverted back to the plus sign. I also tried Cmd-Alt-Shift-+ just to see if that would make a difference, but unfortunately not.

Thanks for your suggestion, however.

David
