Q: Can't Sync iPod After iTunes Update

I updated to the latest version of iTunes last week and now I can't sync my iPod. My computer recognizes the USB is pulled in, so it isn't the cable. But the drop down menu on iTunes doesn't highlight the Sync option to allow me to click on it. I'm using Windows 10 and have a second generation nano, that still works great with the exception of this new glitch of not syncing.

iPod nano, Windows 10

If you are using iTunes 12 for the first time, the iPod appears as a device button on the horizontal bar that goes across the iTunes window.  The menu bar command to sync may be disabled, unless you first select the iPod in iTunes.  Here's a screen shot of upper left corner of my iTunes window, showing the iPod's device button.

Click the device button to select the iPod in iTunes, and show its settings screen.  You don't see the iPod's device button in iTunes when you connect iPod?

Thanks for the response, but that isn't what my screen looks like. This is what I see:

And when I click on the ..., I don't get devices. I get things like Podcasts, Books, iTunes U, etc., but no Devices

You said your computer recognizes the iPod being plugged in, but it does not appear in iTunes...

As a test, shut down (power off) the computer and disconnect all USB devices.  You can leave standard USB keyboard/mouse connected, if used.  If your computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter so that it's not running on battery power.  Do this to Reset (restart) the iPod

Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect iPod to a direct USB port on the computer, by itself.  Is there any difference?

Thanks for the help. I bought a new cable (in case) and it still wasn't working. So I tried to reset the iPod, but when I pressed Play/Pause and Menu at the same time, nothing happened, so I think it may be the iPod itself.

As described in the linked document for iPod with a click wheel, a Reset is pressing and holding down the Menu and Center buttons.
