iMac freezes after login in with never-ending spinning beachball, but works in safe mode.

Specs

27" iMac (mid 2010) running Os X El Capitan 10.11.4

Processor: 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3

Memory: 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Problem

With a normal boot, iMac will boot properly and I can successfully login. Once logged in, I immediately get a popup window stating "To open "CS5ServiceManager" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime." I have the option to click "More Info" or "OK" If I click ANYTHING, I immediately get the spinning beachball. I'm pretty sure that it ran updates over night, because the next morning was when the problems started occurring.

With a safe boot, I can login just fine, everything responds and I can open applications, it is just very slow.

What I have already done (in no particular order)

1. Ran Disk Utility First Aid

2. Reinstalled OS X El Capitan

3. Reset the NVRAM

4. Disabled login items (Dropbox and Google Drive)

4. Ran successfully in Safe Mode, but once I restarted the problem still occurred.

Recently I also upgraded my RAM from 8GB to 16GB, it greatly improved the performance of the machine, and I haven't had any issues until now.

I'm almost to the point of wiping the machine to its factory settings, because it is frustrating me so much. I really don't store anything locally, everything is either in the cloud or on an external hard drive.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

I had to run the etrecheck report under the "Guest User" login, because it won't complete/freezes under my login.

Before you do ANYTHING at all, go to the store, buy and External HD, format it and begin backing up your computer! Operating any computer without a thorough backup is shortsighted at best and puts all of your apps and data files at risk! THIS IS CRITICAL!!! Use Time Machine to back it up!

The only thing I see is you have a lot of Adobe apps installed, ensure they are up-to-date and check with Adobe to ensure they are designed to run on the version of OS X installed on the computer.

Other than that I don't see any other red flags. After getting your system backed up (and checking it)), verifying all the apps are up-to-date if the problem persists then you may have to take it to an AASP to be diagnosed for failing hardware.

rkaufamnn87,

Thank you for the quick reply. I have already backed up all my files on an external HD. I use all the Adobe CC apps for work. I just ran another etrecheck within my login, as it hasn't started beachballing yet, and now it is saying that I am having Drive Failure? What does this mean? See below.

Okay, good luck with the new SSD...once installed and running you should see a significant speed improvement. The easiest method to do this is to create a bootable clone of your system on an EHD, then install the new SSD, boot from the Clone and restore from the clone to the SSD and then boot from the SSD.

If you don't know how to create a clone, you will need SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner to do so.

iMac freezes after login in with never-ending spinning beachball, but works in safe mode.
