Community Login Landing Page

When logging into the ASC I want to land on the page containing the communities I'm following. Example:

User uploaded file

The login procedure identifies me so landing on my page of interest should not be difficult. Instead when logged in I land on a generic page containing all the communities, most of which I'm not interested in. The landing page even asks me if I'm new to the communities. It then takes me a number of clicks and gyrations to get to the page containing my followed communities. Example of where I land currently:

User uploaded file

As a work-around I have created shortcuts to my followed communities but this could be so much easier. I took the time to follow communities, I log in, the system identifies me, Just land me on a page listing my followed communities.

Sorry if I missed something. If what I want exists please let me know.

Howdy Bob (fish bitin'?)

I have done this very thing for a few years with my landing page = Using ASC forum

Try this:

  1. log out
  2. go to your PLAIN [Communities] tab > https://discussions.apple.com/profile/BobTheFisherman/places
  3. You will get an "unauthorized" page with Guest and TWO login links = choose either one
    User uploaded file
  4. Browser Bookmark the resulting LOGIN page - this will be your "Magic Twanger" - rename the Bookmark after if you like, I always do

I am sure there are 'minor' differences between PLAIN and MANAGE versions of this page (and any of the others) - tt2 explained it to ME once, but I found the differences insignificant for my needs

EDITadded

sorry about the "plain (bare)" link to your places = the AppleJiveWare seems to be having trouble with "link" = copy paste works like a charm

Not a solution, but why not go straight to Following Discussions to respond to replies on threads that you're involved with, and My Subscriptons to look for new threads to engage in?

tt2

Followup. After trying Following Discussions it is not giving me what I'm looking for. The only threads that are displayed are those to which I contributed. I want to see the communities I follow including the threads in each community I have not yet participated in. Otherwise I do not see any new threads to which I can contribute.

I think My Subscriptons may be closer to what I want. Trying it now.

Following discussions is for spotting replies to active threads. Threads with new activity will be at the top and in bold, and should work even when the forum the thread is in isn't one you are currently following. It is my first port of call when I drop in to ASC so I can respond to any follow up questions to advice I've already given. I don't generally look for new things to answer until I've dealt with those first, though occasionally I'll put something to one side for later if I know it needs a greater degree of effort and I'm in procrastination mode.

There are things going on behind the curtain, I fear...

My method for you to try -- the Login page has "welcome" in the referring URL string instead of the original target "places" page

The user 'management' TABs are dependent on being logged IN - for me to see yours OR mine = OK --- or you to see your own or mine

My browser bookmark for MY preferred landing page - Using ASC forum "/content" + tt2's special parameters from his SiteMap - works as expected still - this must mean that there is more than one COOKIE in play while a "browser session" is active [ i can logout, close ALL ASC TABs with some other site in a sessionTAB and then choose any ASC browser bookmark and VOILA! I am still logged in - but Quit the browser = no workie for login state - TRUE ]

methinks you are gonna need an added step of a Browser Bookmark for PLACES > AFTER logging in to "somewhere" - my landing page method should work - but it would be no closer than the Welcome page landing

  1. browser bookmark for the login page prior to somewhere NOT requiring login = TRUE to merely visit

LOGIN > All I have to do is hit the ENTER key as my login credentials are "remembered" by browser's function AND the cursor is blinking in the (populated) password field

  2. choose your "places" bookmark

I have to learn to read ahead!!!

Your link (MY bookmark name) Following = still will require the interim step of logging in from the "unauthorized" page - BUT - it does actually go to the right page after !!!

So, IMHO, is Bob's best bet (your explanation of how it works is very succinct)

I have changed/added your "color" trick to MY version of the Stylish CSS so stuff REALLY jumps off the page
