Hi,
Suddenly I can't open my photos. I tried repairing the library, but that failed. I restored from my time machine backup, from several weeks back, and that fails. I ran disk utilities and my disk is fine / permissions are ok. To test - I created a new library2 and I can open that fine - seems photos the application is fine. Just won't open my library.
I don't know what else to try. Any suggestions?

If you can't get the library to open or repaired the following will allow you to create a new library with your image files in the current library:
Starting Over From Scratch With a New Photos Library.
1 - launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new library.
2 - open your old library package with the Finder as shown in this screenshot:
3 - locate the Master folder in the old library and drag it onto the Photos icon in the Dock.
This will create a new library with the same Moments as the original library but will not include the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note: your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.
Once the import is complete verify that the new library has all of your photos and working properly before deleting the older, problem library if that's what you want to do.

What OS and version of Photos (you state OS X 10.10.5 - if that is the case you should upgrade to OA X 10.11.4 (El Captain) and Photos 1.4
Where is your Photos library located? If on an external hard drive how is it connected and what format is it?
Are you trying to share a PHotos library beweeen mutiple users on your Mac?

I, too, migrated from an old mac (now dead). I, too, could not get the repair function to work
You have saved my photos
BUT - there is much work to do to re-annotate the images.
COMMENT - this is obviously a known problem with the system, the multiple questions on this, some older than a year, prove this. The basic problem persists, and apparently, Apple will not fix it.
That is very bad.
I tried this fix but photos ended up needing to be repaired again. Then during the repair process, it gave me the same "unexpected error, photos needs to be restarted". Any other solutions?
