You likely have installed some adware on your system. Please read Stop pop-up ads and adware in Safari - Apple Support
You do not have a virus. If this is not an actual browser feature, then it may simply be advertising malware. I recommend you use Malwarebytes or DetectXTo remove it.
Some browsers may have this feature as part of their Search site. You can try using a different site in the Search option of Safari preferences if it is the browser you are using.
Also, avoid software solutions that only add to the overall OS X slowness, and depending
on where you choose such a 'solution' there may also be more chance of adware or malware.
See and read through the Support document previously offered as source of a cure, it has one.
The etrecheck site and also newest version of adwaremedic (from malwarebytes, for mac) can
be helpful, however learning how to identify and remove without the helper apps is better.

You inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it.
For a description of how this may have occurred, how to avoid it in the future, and for Apple's recommended actions read How to install adware. Apple's instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.
Review your Gatekeeper settings: OS X : About Gatekeeper - Apple Support. Gatekeeper is designed to help prevent you from inadvertently installing garbage software.
Virus on my iMac- Im having problems with my iMac with pop up ads and links whenever i hover over words. Can't find a solution plz help! Ive tried looking for other discussions but haven't found a solution.
