Siri does not pick my voice

iPhone 6+, iOS 9.3

Siri doesn't seem to be able to pick up my voice, as if the microphone is bad. However, I'm pretty sure the mic is working. I have no problem making phone calls. Also, if I disable Siri, voice control works fine. It also seems to work fine when I connect to the bluetooth on my car which has a microphone.

I'm not sure if it ever worked on this phone. But it had worked on my previous iPhone 5s in the past. And I remember when you press and hold the home button, it's supposed to chime, which is not happening on this phone. It vibrates and displays the siri screen but doesn't chime.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Siri no longer chimes when you manually invoke Siri (like pressing and holding the home button).

She will only chime when you remotely invoke Siri (like via bluetooth on a headset or car, or saying 'Hey Siri').

Try adjusting the language she is set to recognize, choose a suitable language and country that you are from (she's trained to recognize accents by country) at Settings > General > Siri > Language > Select your language and country.

You can also try using Siri on another iPhone, to test if the problem is with Siri, or specific to your iPhone.

Hope this helps.

Just a small tip: When you use "Hey Siri", you don't need to wait for the chime. Just say your request or command right after "Hey Siri" without a pause.

I got the detaisl from a website, which helped me. Some times, Siri may not pick up voice due to back ground Noise. If you have upgraded iOS , you may get some issues. Best is to set up siri again.

Open Settings
Select General
Go to Siri
The first Option is Switch on / Off Siri. If it’s green, Than turn it off for a minute or so. You will get a pop-up ” Tun off Siri “, click it.
Now go to option : Allow ” Hey Siri “
Switch it on, you will see a new screen Set up ” Hey Siri “. This helps Siri recognize your voice when you say ” Hey Siri ” .
Now ” click Set up Now “.
It will ask you five times to set up the voice.
First Three times you need to say ” Hey Siri “
4th time is ” Hey Siri How’s the weather Today “
Last Option is ” Hey Siri, it’s me “
Once you see the option ” Hey Siri is ready ” you are done
Click ” Done ” and enjoy Hey Siri
You have some other options also like setting up Language, Siri Voice which are given under ” Allow Hey Siri “.

Thanks. But my problem is not with "Hey Siri", but rather when I invoke Siri by pressing and holding the home button.

I just tried my wife's iPhone (also 6+, latest iOS) and the same thing happened. 😟 I tried an iPhone 5c and it worked fine and it chimed. weird.

For whatever it's worth, my iPhone 6+ recently started wth this behavior, where Siri starts to activate (shows the "What can I help you with" screen, but never sounds the double beep and will not respond to voice commands.

- It happens with my Plantronics BT headset.

- It happens with the original Apple in-ear headphones that came with the iPhone.

- It happens with no headset or headphones - just holding down the home button.

- Once it starts happening, it continues consistently.

- A power-off reset will fix the problem for a while.

- I have not been able to identify a trigger that starts the failure.

I use Siri primarily for voice dialing and at some point after using it for a while, the problem starts.

I have not used any other apps between successful voice dialing and the onset of the failure.

Really hoping for an answer to this annoying problem.

I'm having the exact same issue with Siri. The screen comes up but wave lines are only there for a second then NOTHING. I stare at the blank screen that ask What can I help you with, with a small question mark and microphone that do nothing when touched. No one has responded to your post, did you ever find a solution?
