Mac OS XIf the question is, can you load songs files onto an iPod without using a media manager app like iTunes, the answer is NO. Song files are stored in a particular way on the iPod, to optimize efficiency, and iTunes performs the work of "syncing" song files to the iPod in that particular way. There are supposedly other third-party apps that can do it INSTEAD OF iTunes.
