Q: Bluetooth unavailable

Hi

I cant get Bluetooth to work on Yosemite for some strange reason? I have reset smc, pram, taken battery out, done all the holding button for 20 seconds. Deleted the plist list from library preferences list. All to no Joy!

It is still greyed out. However there is a Bluetooth Pan in network, which I cant do anything with. It is status not connected, and when I go to set Bluetooth up, all greyed out. I even tried a adapter, which found my iPhone and headphones connected for a minute then disconnected. kept doing this.

Anybody got any ideas, as this is quite baffling

Cheers

what are you trying to do ?

ios devices only do iOS: Supported Bluetooth profiles - Apple Support

other then that then most Bluetooth devices needs to be put in discovery /pairing mode to connect to a new device how you go about putting them into that should be in their manual

I am trying to pair my iPhone and iPad, and my headphones. I can do it on my late 2011 mbp, not a problem as bluetooth is sown on top off screen, and i can switch it on and off whenever i want. However the bluetooth on the 2009 MBP is greyed out with a squiggle through it, and it says bluetooth unavailable, and i have tried almost everything it won't come back on? Used to be there.

This is one i am given to my daughter, and she will use it for whatever, her iPhone etc, but i just want it working, before i give her it.

    many thanks

    Try a restart.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

    OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

Use Software Update/App Store to update your OS to OS 10.10.5.  Also, update everything SU/AS has to offer for your computer.  When done, repair permissions and restart your computer.

Also, please update/correct your ASC profile when done.

    Hi there

I have tried all this I have Yosemite 10.10.5, done disc repair says all is cool. However Bluetooth still greyed out as unavailable with squiggle through it. The thing is it cant be my Bluetooth cable, as it picks up my iPhone and other stuff if I add a USB Bluetooth adapter, but will not hold the connection. Maybe it is I don't know? I have tried everything so far, and this is doing my head in. Probably something simple as always, but can't find it.

    Hi Eric

I have tried all you said no joy with the safe mode and when I made a guest account as standard user and allowed icloud etc, Bluetooth symbol has disappeared? Although it isn't in my main folder either, but is at top of screen. In the user account it is not there at all.  Unless I type Bluetooth in spotlight it will come up in network as Bluetooth Pan, which I cant do anything with, as it wont let me set it up?

Hey guys i thought my bluetooth had had it. However as i said, it was in there but i had tried everything i could apart from changing the cable, card etc. I got this really cheap tiny little dongle, and only one of the few that work with mac, so if stuck give it a go. My cordless bluetooth headphones are booming again. There will be something simple for the fix, because it is working like a dream now, but trying to find it has beating me for the time being.
