How do you turn on live photo in OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 Photos 1.5? It was my understanding that this would work in this release.

Sandra,

Placing my cursor over the thumbnail activates live photos for me in Moments/All Photos, but not using individual photos. Edit: works when hovering cursor over the "Live" icon in the lower left hand corner of the photo.

There is also a Photos>Image>View Live Photos selection available for live image photos. Is that turned off?

Just noticed this excerpt from Photos Help:

View Live Photos

With some models of iPhone, you can shoot Live Photos, which include a still image and a short video clip just before and after the image. You can import a Live Photo into Photos, then view, edit, and share it, or change it to a still image.

  • View a Live Photo: Double-click the photo thumbnail.
  • Play the video portion of a Live Photo: Position the pointer over the photo thumbnail or over the Live Photo badge when you’re viewing a photo. If you have a Force Touch trackpad, force click the Live Photo to play the video.
  • Change a Live Photo to a still image: Select the photo, then choose Image > Turn Off Live Photo. To restore the video later, select the photo and choose Image > Turn On Live Photo.

For information about exporting or sharing Live Photos, see Export photos, videos, and slideshows, Transfer photos with AirDrop, Use Messages to share photos, and Change a shared album.

If you use Live Photos in print projects like books, cards, and calendars, they appear as still images when printed.

I'm having the same problem with photos imported/transferred through AirDrop. I airdropped a Live photo taken from iPhone 6s (IOS 9.3.1) to MacBook Pro OS X El Capitan 10.11.4. I opened the photo in Photos 1.5, and it is showing as a still photo. However, the same live photo, if imported using USB cable from iPhone (IOS 9.3.1) to MacBook Pro (El Capitan 10.11.4) remains as a Live photo, and is displaying "Live" in Photos 1.5. The "Turn Off/On LIve Photo" in the menu selection is now enabled - no loner greyed out.

Live photos doesn't work for me through airdrop. Or at least I haven't been able to find a way to make it work.
