There is no authorization step.  Your iPod may be associated with the iTunes library that was previously used to sync it.

If your MacBook has the same iTunes library, you can connect the iPod and sync it like before.  If your MacBook has a different iTunes library, and you previously used automatic syncing with the iPod, you need to associate the iPod with your new iTunes library; this erases the iPod and adds content from the new iTunes library.  If you previously used the Manually manage method to load the iPod, depending on iPod model, you may be able to manually add new content to the iPod's existing content.

If there are songs on the iPod that are not in your MacBook's current iTunes library, you should off-load those songs and add them to your current iTunes library.  For more specific information, please post back with details about your situation.
