losing bluetooth mouse control
Why am I frequently losing control of my bluetooth mouse. Also, when waking up my computer why does the screen lighten up in steps instead of all at once.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

What do you mean by "losing control?"
Lighting up in steps sounds like a hardware issue. If it bothers you, I would take it in for testing/diagnosis.

By losing control I mean that when I move the mouse the cursor doesn't move at first and then it jumps in the direction of the move. This goes on for 10 or 12 times and then I get control back. This usually happens after waking the computer up. The screen brightening in steps happens after waking the computer but just once in awhile. I had this problem some time ago and then it went away. I usually keep my computer on and let it go to sleep to conserve energy. I rebooted it a few weeks ago and these problems started up again.
Try a couple of "standard" troubleshooting steps:
1. reset the NVRAM
2. Reset the SMC
Barry
What is the NVRAM and the SMC and how do I do that?
NVRAM = non volatile random access memory reset like this:

SMC = system management controller reset like this:

Barry,
After I reset the NVRAM my computer started up without the screen brightening in steps and I haven't lost control of the mouse. I waited until this AM to reply because that was when I usually had the most trouble with the mouse. So as of now everything seems to be OK. Thanks so much for your help.

You are welcome.
Since you are new to the forums, a small future suggestion.
It makes no difference to me as I have all the "solved" points I need at L 8, but it is customary to mark "solved" on the post that, in your opinion provided the solved information, not your own.
The same process is appropriate for "helpful" posts.
Barry
P.S. The system prevents points from being awarded by marking your own post solved or helpful.
Barry,
Sorry 'bout that. Thanks for the helpful advice.
