Q: How to debug Final Cut Pro 6.0 at start-up?
Trying to start Final Cut Pro 6.0. Using a Mac Pro with OSX 10.6.3 (Snow Leopard). Yes I know this is relatively older hardware and software, but both have been working fine together for years.
Had some on line geek folks work on my home network security (big mistake). Now Final Cut Pro and Safari both crash at start up.
Reloaded both operating system and final cut pro from our original native discs. Still have the same start up crash problem on both.
Final Cut Pro crash error message says:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x000000000000001c
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
Safari crash error message says:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000004
Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
Debug steps taken so far:
a) Did hard disc check on all drives, all looked good.
b) Did file format scan on all files, did find a few corrupted files on start-up hard drive, but the file checking utility could not be used to fix those format issues since same hard disc contained the operating system.
Would appreciate anyone's comments on how to proceed from here to debug and resolve these issues.
I'm thinking a few next debug & steps are:
1) RAM check (what is best utility to do that with OSC 10.6.3?). Perhaps RAM may go bad with age/heat?
2) Can I boot up the computer in slave mode to another Mac, and then correct the file formats on the slave's harddisk that has the operating system?
Thanks
