Q: ATV 4 Home Sharing Not Showing Up After 10.11.14 / iTunes 12.3.3

I'm not sure which update borked my Home Sharing capabilities...iTunes 12.3.3 or El Cap 10.11.14. Home Sharing used to work before either update. I've tried everything. Doesn't show up in iTunes, my ATV4 or any of my iDevices. Sharing used to be an option on my iOS devices, but, even that no longer is an option as it doesn't give access.

Can anyone help? I can't watch any of my home movies, etc.

Thanks in advance!!

Are they all using the same Apple ID & password?

    Read here:

    Stream content using Home Sharing

You can stream music, movies, TV shows, photos, and other iTunes content from a computer or iOS device to your Apple TV. Both the device and Apple TV must be configured to use the same iTunes account.

Configure a computer. In iTunes, go to File > Home Sharing and choose Turn on Home Sharing. Enter your Apple ID and password, then click Turn on Home Sharing.

Note: In Windows 7 and Windows 8, iTunes menus are hidden by default. To show them temporarily, press the Alt key.

Configure an iOS device. Go to Settings > Videos or Settings > Music and turn on Home Sharing. Enter your Apple ID and password.

Configure Apple TV. On Apple TV, in Settings Settings icon, go to Accounts > Home Sharing. Turn On Home Sharing, then enter your Apple ID and password.

Stream content on Apple TV. Once you’ve configured all your devices using the same Apple ID, highlight Computers Home Sharing on the Apple TV Home screen and press the Touch surface. Libraries from your shared devices appear, and you can view or play any content from any library.

    Hey Ckuan-

Thanks for your tips. To answer your questions...in short, yes to all the above. Is there anything else you can think of?

Update the router firmware and reboot the router.

I encountered the same problem (everything was happy then I updated to 10.11.4 and TV OS version of iOS 9.3 then everything when to crap), and it was affecting both my Apple TV 4 Gen and my Airport Extreme (use them with iTunes to send music throughout my house) and was driving me nuts. I found a random post about going to Settings > Sharing > Computer Name, changing the name to a new name, then rebooting everything (including routers), and this fixed everything (got my iTunes sharing back, Airplay functionality, etc.). The Computer Name fix was related to an older version of Mac OS, but it seemed to fix the trick to me.

C'mon Apple... I've been a loyal user since my B/W Mac SE, but really, I'm just inches away from walking away from iOS, Mac, the whole 9 yards. It's ridiculous that every software update breaks more things than it fixes. Fewer updates, more slowly released, that you actually TEST... it ain't rocket science!

This happened to me too. Everything was working fine recently, last time I used home sharing but today I installed the Apple Remote App on my iPhone and tried to follow the instructions to pair it with the iTunes (12.3.3.17) on my Mac Mini (OS X El Capitan 10.11.4). These instructions just wouldn't work. The phone kept telling me to turn home sharing on on my Mac, even though it already was.

So, I tried both my new, and old, apple tvs just to see if home sharing was still working with these devices. Neither one was, i.e. going to "Computers" just gave me the message to turn on home sharing. I rebooted all 3 devices, several times, and cycled home sharing off and then on as well, but neither of the ATVs can see the Mac Computer, or all my music and videos.

On top of that, none of them work with the Apple Remote App on my phone. I think the latest iTunes has downloaded very recently, I wonder if that's what caused it all. If so, they'd surely have tested it thoroughly before releasing it wouldn't they?

    see my post above....

*******Having said all that!! I just spotted ckuan's post a little further up which, without fanfare, suggested rebooting the router. When I did that (I skipped the bit about updating the firmware) it fixed everything. The ATVs and the Remote App on the phone are all working splendidly! Genius. Thanks!******
