I have noticed that my fire wall is not activated on my I mac and it needs a password to activate it but i cannot remember my old password and it will not accept my apple I.D

Are you talking about the Firewall or FileVault?
The password you need is the same one you use to log into the computer.

That is what Automatic login is for, you do not have to give up the security and reliability of a password.
