Why do I suddenly have Macintosh HD icon on my desktop? If I double click to open and see what it is, it says:" The folder “Macintosh HD” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents." This is MY computer and no one else uses it! So, what is this that I can't see on my own computer?!! Why is it suddenly here after having this macbook pro for almost 3 years? How do I get rid of it?

Start Finder and from the Top Menu select Finder > Preferences.
If you have Hard disks checked, it should display Macintosh HD on your desktop.
If you go to the apple on top menu and select System Preferences > Users & Groups, does it show you are logged in as Administrator?

(Sorry to take so long to reply... my days got really busy!)
I actually got rid of it by just restarting my computer. I was already logged in as the administrator, so I don't know what was going on for that little bit! Thanks.
shouldn't be too hard. click on it once and do a "Get info" on it (command+I), it will tell you what it is, roughly, its size, and whether or not you have permissions to read and write. you can change the permissions at the bottom of the window by clicking the lock. you'll probably have to enter your administrator password, then change it to "read and write" and close the window. You should now be able to see its contents, hopefully

So, I don't know what happened as I was already logged in as admin. and the "hard disks" is not checked, but, problem was solved by just simply re-starting my computer! Thanks.
