Apple Server appears as windows PC

I'm running an Apple network consisting of:-

  • Mac Mini (El Capitan v10.11.4 & OS X Server v10.5)
  • iMac 27-inch late 2013 (El Capitan v10.11.4)
  • MacBook
  • MacBook Pro

The trouble I have is twofold:-

  1. The Mac Mini server doesn't appear on the network when I first start my iMac or one of the MacBooks. I have to go & wake up the Mac Mini and, since the last update (installed 2 days ago) even this doesn't always bring the Mac Mini onto the network.
  2. If my son, who has bootcamped the MacBook Pro & insists on running Windows, starts his laptop the Mac Mini only shows as a Windows PC & I can't remote access (screen share) the Mac Mini.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to solve either issue please
