Q: trying to activate after latest update to ipad but device will not take my new id and pw.

i recently accepted a prompt to update. now apple insist i log in with very first id and pw which i no longer have or remember.what do i do? and No i do not have other apple devices so i cannot "remove" from other account. please advice.
