Google links don't work after iOS 9.3

After update to iOS 9.3 on my iPhone 6 Plus I can no longer click on search links from Google anymore. Tried both in Safari and Chrome. Works well with Bing.com.


If I hold down on the link and choose to open in new tab it works.


restarted apps -> same result

Rebooted iPhone twice -> same result.


suggestions?

I Have the sAmerica issues after upgrading to iOS 9.3 last night on my iPhone 6. Called customer service tech support and at first they denied having an issue with iOS 9.3 and that they are not aware of one. Then the guy comes back after I sent him the link to this page with people comparing about this issue and said that they were made aware of this issue 15 minutes ago. Bull.

I am having the same problem, links won't work, on iOS 9.2 (not 9.3!). The problem started in the last 48 hours. I can't think of what I may have done to trigger it. None of the workarounds work.

Just been on Apple chat. The annoying thing is they start the conversation like they know nothing about it!

"Oh wow, I understand how inconvenient and concerning it is to experience so many problems after updating to iOS 9.3. So you are experiencing an issue with accessing links within Safari after the update. I always expect updates to go smoothly, and this is definitely unexpected behavior. You have definitely made a great choice by contacting Apple Support today, you are in the right place for help!"

When you point out he hundreds of complaints on web

I want to let you know that our engineering team has received similar reports of this link behavior within iOS 9.3 and they are investigating the issue. As a temporary workaround, we can try turning off JavaScript, then restart your iPhone.

Said it hadn't worked for me.

Usual apologies etc then says use this link to report.


So everyone please use it. Not that it has ever worked for me with other issues. maybe I'll go back to windows and android.

The bad data isn't from inside booking.com's app. It's downloaded by iOS completely separately. It is not stored as part of Booking.com's sandbox either. Apple describes it a little in the Universal Links programming guide. https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/General/Conceptual/AppSear ch/UniversalLinks.html


It is not executable code, it's a set of simple URL matching rules in JSON format.

I did indeed, the food was excellent. Had Rachel's breakfast sandwich which consists of two english muffins, one with cheese, and roasted turkey and had marinated tomatoes on the side. Split a piece of Carrot Cake for dessert and had coffee from a local roaster. (The restaurant was Pacific Table and coffee from Avoca). Even the Apple Store in the center near the restaurant was closed on Easter so I'm sure you also wish them a nice day off.


No, don't work for Apple. Apple has released a slipstream upgrade of 9.3 (different build number) have you upgraded to it? Connect your devices to your computer and upgrade in iTunes.


Apple does not have email support no matter which type of device you use. They do have chat support for some products and of course you can always call them.


If you just want to send them your sarcastic letter you can do so here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html and actual Apple employees will read it.


I don't use Google on my iDevices (I default to DuckDuckGo as I'm not in the mood for giving away my information to be sold to others at this time) and have not experienced the link issue. Try it on yours and let me know if it works. If you prefer Google you could try DuckDuckGo for a bit until the Apple engineers get over their sugar buzz from bitting the ears off of chocolate bunnies.

It really is odd... ALL my browsers - Chrome, Safari and Mercury were broken. The only way I could initially click on a link was using the separate "Google" app to search.


  • Turning off Javascript in settings/Safari allows Safari to work, but that setting doesn't help the others.
  • Mercury is "fixed" by choosing a different user-agent string. Bizarrely choosing Chrome as the user-agent lets it work....
  • Chrome just seems broken by whatever it is.

I already had this issue starting 2~3(?) days ago, when I was still on iOS 9.2.1.


It started after I was opening an Kickstarter.com link in Safari. It tried to open the app through Safari but then crashed. I also tried to find the same product page inside the Kickstarter App. I think it uses an internal app webbrowser. The app crashed.


Since then I had the problem of links on Google/etc (links to external websites, not currently where you're at) not working. Not even in the Chrome app. I upgraded to iOS 9.3 this morning to try to fix this, but to no avail.


What worries me most is that this issue happened BEFORE I upgraded.. Which means that something changed on my phone between now and a few days back. Logical possibilities:

  • Some Appstore/App update(s) causing the problem
  • Apple updates some things in the background on your phone, without a full iOS update, causing the problem

Same problem ... iPhone 6S running 9.3 ... Cannot open links in TXT messages OR emails. Tap does nothing, long hold freezes the phone.

  • Disabling Javascript did not help me
  • Switching search engines (yahoo, google, bing, duckduckgo) and restarting safari did not help
  • Disabling search engine suggestions and safari suggestions did not help.
  • ZERO problems prior to the upgrade and the problem began IMMEDIATELY after upgrade.

Very frustrating. I know for a fact that this issue was reported by multiple users during beta testing and they still released it!!!!!! Instead of releasing a product when it is truly ready it seems they are releasing at a specified date, quality be ******.


Terrible quality control.

How to fix iOS 9.x Safari/Mail Link Bug

There have been numerous threads and articles about the iOS link bug, with many of them posting false information. This bug is not limited to iOS 9.3 nor does it have much to do with the update itself. It appears to be caused by the Shared Web Content Daemon, which goes into a crash loop after the Booking.com app tried to register too many universal links. Perhaps other apps are to blame too. I won’t bore you with all the details and get to the point: the method I wrote up below fixed the issue on my iPhone 6S Plus.


If you miss or modify a step, it might not work!

Recipe

  1. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your PC or Mac via cable (not Wi-Fi) . If necessary, accept the ‘Trust this Computer’ message.
  2. Launch iTunes if not already launched.
  3. Turn on Airplane mode.
  4. Uninstall the Booking.com app if you still have it installed. If not, then go to the next step.
  5. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings → Safari.
  6. Set your Search Engine to Bing.
  7. Disable the following:
    1. Search Engine Suggestions.
    2. Safari Suggestions.
    3. Quick Website Search.
    4. Block pop-ups.
    5. Fraudulent Website Warning.
  8. Disable all active Content Blockers (eg. 1Blocker).
  9. Go into Settings → Safari → Advanced and disable Javascript.
  10. Leave your device connected and in Airplane mode.
  11. Turn your iPhone/iPad off by holding the Sleep/Wake button, then sliding the on-screen slider.
  12. Turn it back on.
  13. Keep Airplane mode on!
  14. Go into iTunes and install the Booking.com app, then sync changes for it to actually install.
  15. Keep Airplane mode on!
  16. Run the Booking.com app. When asked if you want to accept notifications and/or GPS access, do not grant them access! (Just say no.)
  17. Double-click the Home button to launch the multitasking screen and kill Booking.com by swiping up on it.
  18. Uninstall the Booking.com app.
  19. Turn off Airplane mode.
  20. Turn on everything you disabled or changed in steps 6-9.
  21. Smile.
This worked perfectly for me. Let me know if it helped you too.

Clarified step 1 — you need to connect via cable, not Wi-Fi, to your Mac/PC.

The same thing happened to me after 8.3 was released, even though I didn't upgrade. I tried upgrading the problem didn't go away. I tried wiping and restoring from backup, the problem still didn't go away. In the end wiping the entire phone and not restoring from backup, fixed the problem even on 8.3, but it's ridiculous to have to go through such lengths, just to be able to click on a link.

I have the same problem.... i have the 9.1 firmware on Iphone 6 and i actualize it to 9.2 then i start my problems with links on safari and whatsapp, emails....all links get frezee (I m spanish...sorry for the write mistakes) , i go to apple store and they restablize my iphone but i loose all things... because they configure it as a new iphone.

The problem desapear....

but today i update to 9.3 firmware and the problem come back....

I think is a problem only on iphone 6 because my iphone 5 no have this problem when i update the firmware.

Please solve quiqly the problemm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was frustrated enough to try to go back to 9.2.1. No Go...ran into the "Software too old" message in iTunes (Windows) when I try to restore the phone after I do the downgrade to 9.2.1. Frustrating to say the least.


I'm (kid you not) 6 hours into restoring my iphone 6+ (128Gb) to 9.3 from the backup. End result will be still having the broken links problem. :-/


I'm trying to remember the number of times I've told folks not to immediately upgrade to the new release. Should have been a little more suspect of a new release that's timed with a somewhat big announcement by Apple.


Live and learn...not sure if anyone has the magic process to downgrade from 9.3 that actually works. I know that Apple is still signing the 9.2.1 IPSW file, but not sure how to get around the "Software too old message). More curious really, after the restore back to 9.3, will just wait until fix for 9.3 comes out. Which like everyone else...I hope is SOON.

Same problem (links in safari do not work) and I have spent SO much time on this including chats, phone calls with Apple and a trip to the Genius Bar where we thought he fixed it. It does not work even though we erased my phone and reset, etc....... SO frustrating and my phone is not smart anymore. I wish I had not upgraded to 9.3 so quickly as well and waited until I heard more about it. My husband has a 6s and his did fine. Mine is a 6plus.
