Hi Luc,
If you are familiar with the French keyboard layout, you can switch the keyboard to that layout.
If not, you can acess many of the accents you will need from the English KB layouts using (for example) option-~ , then pressing e for è or option-e, then pressing e for é. See the keyboard viewer for other options. Open Keyboard Viewer and press the option key to view the keys to use for each accent.
If all of the accents you need aren't available from an english keyboard, you can still list a French language KB as a 'second choice' and switch to it when you need an accented letter.
Keyboard choices are set in System Preferences > Language and Text > Input sources. If you choose more than one KB layout, the Input menu (a small flag) will be displayed in your menu bar. The flag indicates the currently active KB.

Barry
if you hold down a vowel key on the US keyboard you should also get a popup menu from which you can choose the accented character you need.
When I hold a vowel it works but I have to save everytime otherwise it reverse to the original. As well I finally woke up and turned off the automatic correction and that help me. It would be nice to have the french correction but i guess that is to much to ask.

That seems crazy. When you hold down the e key until the popup comes, then let go of the key, then press 2 so you get é, does it then change to e when you keep typing?
For French correction, just go to Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar and set the dictionary to French.

Hi Tom,
Will spelling correction with the French dictionary active spot and flag words where the error is a missing accent? If so, that might simplify the task of writing the occasional document in french.

Barry

I don't know if it is that good, maybe. I would not rely on it myself...
Can't help but smile everytime I pass this post. 😉

Mais oui, Pierre, bien sûr! 😉
