Q: Mini displayport to two separate monitors

Hi there,

A lot of trawling on these forums and the rest of the internet has got me nowhere...

Is it possible to run two separate displays from a mini displayport? To be specific, I want to have my work document available to me on my macbook air's screen, plus two separate research documents available, each on a separate monitor. So if we call my macbook display "X", and the two other monitors (each with separate content) "Y" and "Z", is the following possible?

Y ---- X ---- Z

I have read that the mac processor can only manage two seperate displays (ie X and Y); is this correct? This is currently my setup, though I have an extra monitor just sitting on the floor, not doing much, and I would like to be able to put it to use.

Cheers

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
