Q: My smart playlist won't sort by release date in ascending order

Hello,

I have a 7th generation iPod nano, software version 1.0.4. I sync all unplayed episodes of all podcasts to the nano. I also sync a smart playlist to it that includes episodes from a number of podcasts that I listen to. I want to have the podcasts on this list sorted according to release date in ascending order so that I am always listening to the podcasts oldest to newest. For some reason, the iPod nano will not sort the podcasts in ascending order and sorts them in descending order, newest to oldest.

In iTunes, under My Podcasts, I have sorted all of my podcasts by release date in ascending order, oldest to newest.

In iTunes, under Playlists, I have sorted all of my podcasts by release date in ascending order, oldest to newest, and the smart playlist is also sorted by release date in ascending order, oldest to newest.

In iTunes, under Devices->iPod Nano->Podcasts, each of the podcasts on the device is sorted by release date in ascending order, oldest to newest.

In iTunes, under Devices->iPod Nano->[smart playlist name], the smart playlist is sorted by release date in ascending order, oldest to newest.

When I go to the device itself and select Podcasts->[name of individual podcast], each of the podcasts is sorted by release date in ascending order, oldest to newest.

When I go to the device itself and select Music->Playlists->[smart playlist name], the episodes are sorted by release date IN DESCENDING ORDER, NEWEST TO OLDEST.

I have restored the iPod nano (twice), and this has not affected the sort order.

Can anyone suggest something else that I might try to get the podcasts to sort correctly?

Cheers,

hussar

Okay, I was able to work through this on my own. I unchecked the "Sync Podcasts" block and sync'd the nano, removing all podcasts from the device. I then re-checked the "Sync Podcasts" block and sync'd. Now, when I go to Music->Playlists->[name of smart playlist], the episodes are sorted correctly, oldest to newest, and several episodes that had refused to even sync before are also now present.

I'm pretty certain, though, that this is not the way this is supposed to work.
