Q: Is anyone else finding mail slow after the latest El Capitan upgrade?

I'm finding mail slower (more noticeably than anything else) after the latest El Capitan upgrade 10.11.4 - but I can't see any other chatter about it on the web. Is anyone else finding this?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

I would have thought the fact that Mail seems to be hoovering up round about 150% of the CPU, (not quite sure how that is possible, actually), is the explanation.  But I'm not technically clever enough to understand what is causing this or how I might fix it.  It certainly began after the update to 10.11.4.

Hi kosmo126, each CPU core can run at 100% so figures well over 100% are common.

Back to the main point, I now have an Apple mouse connected via Bluetooth and the lag in Mail has gone, so, like you I'm only seeing it on my Apple Trackpad, which is the latest, rechargeable version. Not aware of it being laggy in other applications though.

My Mac Mail has been painfully slow, too, since the last update.

It's become unusable and I'm about to switch to Airmail.  I've had to wait up to 10 seconds to select a message.  Arrrgh!

I have no iCloud accounts anymore.  Just Google and Zoho accounts.

I have a fair number of messages, but nothing obscene.

And... things worked just fine with Yosemite mail just about 12 weeks ago... before I finally updated to El Capitan.

I will try Linc's suggestions and see if that solves it and will report back.

Step 1 from Linc's post solved it for me, turning of iCloud Drive mail syncing.  Thanks!

iCloud Drive doesn't do Mail Syncing, and doesn't have a switch to turn Mail Syncing off (or on)

turning of iCloud Drive mail syncing

You already know this, of course, but to spare anyone else finding this thread from being confused, iCloud Drive obviously does sync Mail metadata, and that synchronization is enabled or disabled in the options for iCloud Drive, as I wrote earlier.

Is there any attribution for that?

Mail is hopelessly slow since El Capitan. With IMAP mail accounts the e-mails are frequently downloaded which are full of un recognisable characters. Have tried the Rebuild function and even deleted the mail account and started all over twice. The problem still exists.

The only think I find really slow is when scrolling through junk mail. It is virtually impossible to do as the UI keeps locking up for seconds at a time, making it extremely hard to scroll through the messages. If I give it a long time to synchronize and settle down, then it seems to be fine.
