Mac-Mini 2011 - AMD Radeon GPU Failure

Hello everyone, I meet with my mini 2011 (AMD video card) the same problem as the MacBook and iMac to the same generation. Apple has launched an extended warranty for Imac:

But nothing for the mini that has exactly the same problem. There are other mini users who have had problems:

And many others I'm sure.

I know he is selling fewer mini but that does not excuse either. I return from GeniusBar that tells me that this has nothing to do. And presents me a motherboard change quote the price of a new mini. I grant that it takes to Apple supports this as repair for MacBook and iMac to the same generation with an AMD video? I am taking advice and opinions. Thank you for your help.

I disabled Radeon card. Not perfect solution but it works.

Boot your mac in single user mode (Press cmd+s while booting)

Mount your root partition in read/write mode ( mount -uw / )

Move all ATI kernel extensions to another directory ( mkdir /ATI;mv /System/Library/Extensions/ATI* /ATI )

and reboot your mac.

After any MacOS update, ATI kernel extensions will be replaced. So you have to repeat this steps.

Yes, a few other users have posted same problem and Apple does not have a recall/repair program of the Mini's.

Thank you but no I will not do that. Apple must support this. I had a long chat with Apple support. They want to do nothing because it is not recognized by Apple. This is absurd and not very honest to customers of mini I am really disappointed. My mini is the end of 2012. It is old and it is not normal that the video card fails.

Last 3 days ago i experience in my Mid 2011 Mac Mini /2.5Ghz/8Gb with 256mb Amd Radeon 6630 graphics.

Ever since this is the first problem I encountered. Few months after the AppleCare Protection plan has ended..

I am really disappointed since i hardly used the mini for enternet only..😟😟

Thanks for your feedback. I'm sure many of us have concern. They have come here to say. Yes I understand you. It is unacceptable that Apple say there is no problem. It is not normal that a video card died after 4 years!

I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE ON A MAC MINI 2011 A1347.

THE GRAPHICS CARD BROKE, AND I GET THE SAME PROBLEMS AS IN IMAC AND MACBOOK PRO.

IS THERE A WAY TO START A FORMAL GENERAL COMPLAIN?

Hi, Sorry to hear that. The only way is to change the motherboard. Either Apple warranty or accepting the repair estimate. But Apple should make an additional warranty as for Imac / Macboock. We must persevere.

We must insist from Apple for they take macmini warranty. But it is not certain they accept.

I have the same Macmini5,2 and reading this I hope this isn’t a common problem. I planned to use this Mac – and the graphics card – for years to come. Apple should react and extend warranty if this turns out to be a common problem.

I also was thinking of doing for many years with this Mac. There is nothing.
It's the same problem as the iMac / MacBook. But Apple will not listen this time.
You have to be many to change that ...
It's unfortunate but Apple no other choice! 😟
