Text Edit opens to Finder page

Using MacBook Pro with OS X 10.11.4, I find that when "Text Edit" is opened from dock icon, a "Finder" page is brought up! 😟

If I then click on "New Document" (lower left corner), a normal blank "Text Edit" window appears!

Why is "Finder" window appearing? How to fix?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

Why opening TextEdit from Dock opens to a Finder window?

That happens if TextEdit is enabled in iCloud Drive.

To open to a blank TextEdit document window when you click the TextEdit icon in the Dock:

System Preferences > iCloud Drive > Options > Documents

Uncheck the box beside “TextEdit”

Click “Done”.

Now TextEdit will open to a new blank document.

I keep it as default and choose “New Document” from the window that opens up.
