That often means the iPod's hard drive is faulty. Do a Reset (restart) on the iPod

If you get back to the same error screen, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode

Then connect it to the computer running iTunes. If iTunes picks it up, it may prompt you to do a Restore on the iPod with a message about "recovery." This erases the iPod, reinstalls its software, and sets it to default setting. If there is data corruption on the iPod, a Restore should fix it.


If the iPod does not go into Disk Mode, or if the Restore fails, the most likely cause is a faulty hard drive in iPod.
