Q: How do i make a new library on my NAS drive

I run iTunes on my PC, but have a NAS drive to back everything up. I'd like to use my SONOS speakers and point it to the NAS drive iTunes library (so I don't need my PC on), but the NAS iTunes library (being a copy) does not point to the files on the NAS drive so the SONOS will find all the files on the NAS drive but the imported playlists will not work. Can I create a new iTunes library on the NAS drive that keeps all my playlists intact, even although I won't use iTunes to run this library by default.

iPad 2, Windows 7

Sorry I took so long to answer this - I started to reply, got sidetracked and then forgot. There’s a file in your iTunes library called iTunes Music Library.xml which you can copy to your NAS - put it in the directory that contains your music. Then follow the instructions on the SONOS Web site on how to point your SONOS system to the NAS drive & directory that contains your music. Songs will index the songs and build its own directory to show artists & albums and will use the playlist section of the xml file to build playlists. Each time you update your iTunes library you’ll need to copy the xml file to the NAS. I set up a macro that automatically copied the file every day so new playlists were updated.

Great advice on dwb's post. There is also the option of installing something like Plex on your NAS (depending on it's spec) and streaming your music to any device inside or outside your home from that.
