Can Thunderbolt 2 port be used as video input from my iPhone?

I use my Amazon Prime account with the Amazon Video app to watch movies. The option to download content to mobile devices is convenient when traveling. I was hoping this feature would be available on my new MacBook Pro, but was disappointed to find it's not an option. Then, I thought I could download movies to my iPhone 5c and display them to laptop through the HDMI port. Later I learn this is port is output only. What about the two Thunderbolt 2 ports? Can they be used as video input with an HDMI adapter? If not, does anyone know a way to make this work? Thanks
