ios 9.3 install bricked iPhone 6S

After days of prompts to install ios 9.3 on my iphone 6s, I foolishly tried to install it tonight without reading all the negative reviews. I now have a bricked iphone and can not get it to update or restore. Each time it ends with this box and various different error numbers (I've seen 23, 4013, 4014) and Apple's help articles for those error codes hasn't fixed the problem (i've carefully followed all the steps and everything on my Macbook is up to date - running the latest itunes and el capitan).

Has anyone found something that will at least get the phone working again? I can swap the sim out to my older phone but I'm overseas right now and can't get to an apple store for an in person fix. Thanks!

Thanks for the compilation of articles. I wish it was the activation error, but I still can't get beyond the above screen to update or restore at this point. I'm in the process of downloading the 9.2.1 firmware and am going to try to downgrade. Hopefully that will work and I will have a usable phone again.

But if any other creative solutions have arisen I'm all ears.
