Import pictures from more than a month back.

A friend wants me to download pictures from their iPhone to a PC. I got Photo Gallery to recognize it and import, however, it only seems to grab photos from the last month. As many of the photos are older, this isn't good enough. I tried the Windows Photo app and accessing the memory through File Explorer to no avail. I feel like their is an option I am missing. I would like to avoid installing any more software if possible. Is there a way to get the old photos easily?

I am looking for their photos through importing by Windows Photos app, Windows Photo Gallery and the DCIM folder from File Explorer. All of the previous are trying to treat the phone as a camera. Each only sees the last month of photos; I guess the only look in the Photo Stream. All of the photos show up in the pictures app on the phone. I can't seem to find any folder that only has the last month of photos, except when sorted by month.

iCloud is my next option; however, I didn't their password at the time so I couldn't then.

If you're seeing the DCIM folder(s), you're not importing the photos in the "best" way.

Your photo app should be viewing the phone's index which is different from the individual folders. If your photo app doesn't see some photos, you may need to reset Windows' import history.

This is an old article, but the concept is the same...

Are you able to see the photos in the iPhone? If so, importing them like LACAllen suggested should retrieve them. This is how:

Import photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer - Apple Support

However your Photo Import wizard may need to be reset as previously mentioned. This is easy if you are a bit of a techie, if not you may not feel comfortable doing it. I have a Dell W10 PC and have done so before several times.

You would have to delete the PreviouslyAcquired.db file and it is hidden file. To find it go to Cortana and type %appdata% and then back up one folder from Roaming to Local then locate the file here:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Photo Acquisition\PreviouslyAcquired.db

If this is too much mumbo jumbo, you should still be able to see the pictures using File Explorer. While not the ideal way to import (you would not get any edits) you can open File Explorer, click on the phone in the left panel, then expand all the subfolders under the phone. iPhones for better or for worse create new DCIM folders every month and if the pictures are there you should be able to locate all the DCIM folders. There may be many and it may take a while to locate all the pictures.
