wifi goes off on iPhone 6s

I have the new iPhone 6s and with this I am often experiencing a difficulty that even when I m close to wifi modem, the phone switches to cellular data when using internet. The setting in the phone is for wifi to over ride cellular data, but still the problem comes. I have to keep switching of cellular to make use of wifi. Why is it so? Is any update needed for it ?

iPhone 6s, iOS 9.3

Hi docsvilla,

Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.

I see that your iPhone 6s is defaulting to using cellular data instead of available Wi-Fi networks, and you have to turn off cellular data to connect to Wi-Fi. It's hard to say why this is so, and there are several troubleshooting steps I'd recommend to narrow down the cause.

I recommend starting by troubleshooting your Wi-Fi network using the steps in If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t connect to a Wi-Fi network.

Also, you may want to Check for a Carrier Settings Update which is mentioned in If you can't connect to a cellular network or cellular data.

Best Regards.
