Anyone know why all of a sudden Quicktime wont run on my Windows 10 PC?

The only change Im aware of to my system recently was I updated my SecondLife client (Firestorm v 4.7.7), and since then no matter what I try I cant get Quicktime to run...

OS: Windows 10 home (64-bit)

CPU: AMD 8350 8-core 4.00 GHz

MB: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3

Mem: 16.0Gb

Vid: ATI Radeon R9 200 series (x2)

Quicktime v 7.7.6

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When I click on the QT icon on my desktop, nothing happens.

Windows error report log tells me I get a fault in Quicktime.dll.

Firestorm says that peoples media not working since the update is a common issue and is because Linden Labs (the owners of SecondLife), have set it up so that media content is now handled differently and in order to fix it I need to install a different plug-in for my browser (which I have done several times... with each time being told the install was successful...) and claiming that will fix the issue (which it doesnt).

One more thing that has just started when all this came about; I get a box prompting me to download and install the latest "Apple update" program (along with my "iTunes" and one other thing thats "iTune" related but what it is exactly slips my mind atm...), which I ALSO have been doing (and, as usual, claims it was successful...) but then just a minute ago it told me (for the first time yet still after saying it had updated successfully) that it "...couldnt connect to the Apple Update server and please check my internet connection..." and what it was trying to do was bring up that same box telling me I needed to update....again...and all of this AFTER it had said I updated successfully.

So I think what I need to do is just completely uninstall everything Apple related and do a fresh clean install of it.

My only concern is I know I will never find all the necessary registry entries to be successful by searching for only the Apple and QuickTime references in it (because theres virtually ALWAYS registry settings that dont use the actual software name in the path at all for the keys).

Anyway, once more, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Cobra, sorry for the delay.

I'm afraid your symptoms don't ring any particular bells for me. That said it probably wouldn't hurt to tear down the iTunes and QuickTime installations and then rebuild them as shown in the second box of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

Do you need QuickTime? It seems to be rarely used these days. iTunes is no longer built around it. If you do need it and iTunes needs to work with it too, then you need to use the "for older video cards" version of iTunes.

No problem on the delay as I was out of town for several days myself.

As for what I need Quicktime for is it is needed to watch many of the media files inside of SecondLife.

I actually have no use for iTunes and dont even have it on my system but I will definitely take your advice on removing/rebuilding the program(s) in my system.

Thanks for taking the time to help me with this issue and Ill post here later letting you know if I was successful or not... fingers crossed.. lol
