Q: After installed 10.11.4, problem with shutdown.

Hello,

My wife has an account on my computer.  If I try to do a total shutdown through my account (while her account is logged into),  I get dialog box saying "Enter admin Password to shut down."  I would expect this dialog, however, when I do enter my name and password, it rejects the entry.  I am listed as admin/ owner.  I have tried to run Disk Utilities (which claimed to fix hard disk).  However, the issue continues.

Thanks in advance.

Is her account Admin as well? It may not allow that.

I just checked.  No, her account is "standard."

Well, it may not allow a shutdown without all other users being logged out. I don't use more than one User account on my machines so I'm just guessing.

I have guessed the same thing.  If I have hear log out of her account and then I log out of mine, there is no problem.  The interesting thing is if this is true, it is a recent change.  I was able to log out before.  It would ask for the admin password if other people were logged in.  If no one was logged in, it would just shut down.

Now, it is like the option to completely shut down is there, I'm just perpetually not permitted to use that feature.

I understand what you mean. I actually don't know what the behavior was before since I never had more than one user on a machine. So right now, I don't know if there was a change or there is something up with your install. I could create a new user on mine and see what it does but it's Saturday and I'm feeling lazy.

    I may try it later.

I became less lazy. I created a second "Standard" user, logged into it, switched to my normal account, selected Shutdown then got the window you mentioned…

However, when I filled in my admin account information my computer did indeed shutdown. You are entering your user name and not the account name?
